About Us
Me and my wife, Jennifer, at our June 2009 wedding
I came up with the idea for Sports Card Kids after stopping at a local card shop to pick up a few supplies on a Saturday. The store was packed with kids and their parents. It turns out they were doing their monthly drawings for cards and packs for kids who had bought stuff throughout the month. I left there with my supplies and the realization that many adult collectors have long since lost the excitement shown by these kids as they waited for their names to be drawn. Additionally, with card shops all but becoming a thing of the past, many young collectors will never experience the fun of a Pack War or thrill of winning a free box of cards.
 Having been a sports card collector for over 25 years, I saw this as an opportunity to bring something new to collectors both young and old not so young. After nearly 3 years of developing, tweaking and re-working of the website's concept and design, Sports Card Kids proudly went live in February of 2010!
As for my collecting background, one of my earliest memories is searching through a brown-paper grocery bag where I stored my cards looking for the holy grail of the time (1984), a Topps Darryl Strawberry Rookie Card. I also remember my friends and me riding our bikes to the Walgreen's in the small-Nebraska town where I grew up and looking through all of the 1987 Topps Rack Packs to see if any of them had a Jose Canseco showing.  Over the years, I began to focus on two collecting interests -- Ozzie Smith and football cards of former Nebraska players. I now have my Ozzie collection stowed away to one day be passed down to my kids (who will hopefully share my passion), and continue to add to my 3,500+ card Nebraska collection.
I hope you enjoy using the Sports Card Kids website as much as I do running it. Also, while most of my time is now dedicated to this site, I do still occasionally list some higher-end cards on eBay.
